COFFEE and food vans may get dedicated spots to trade in a proposed policy controlling the businesses currently at the Curtin Avenue carpark at Mosman Park Beach and other sites in the Town.

“Not only do the locations conflict with the parking rules applicable to the area, but the arrangement is also messy and in need of streamlining,” a report at Mosman Park’s May council meeting said.

Councillor Zenda Johnson wanted a potential site for the vans on Bay View Terrace, overlooking the Swan River, to be removed from the draft policy.

Cr Johnson asked if the policy dealt with rubbish reported to have been left in public bins by food vans near Mosman Park IGA on Wellington Street.

Chief executive Mark Goodlet said the draft policy was intended for public comment, and it would be the council’s choice whether to include or remove trading sites, such as those at Tom Perrot Reserve.

There had been no complaints at the Mosman Park Beach carpark, which is used by a coffee van early on weekdays, an ice cream van on weekends and a food bus, which has vacated the area since summer.

Councillors decided to propose two “soft” stands and a dedicated car bay for the coffee van at the carpark and for the draft policy to be advertised for 28 days before it is considered at August’s meeting.
