Sarah Brodie, her fiance Daniel Paterson and their sons Brayden (5) and Rylee (nine months) were staying at her mother’s house on August 11 when a gas explosion at their West Swan house burnt it to the ground.
Ms Brodie said she was haunted by the question: ‘What if we had been there?’
‘Our bedroom is on one side of the house and the kids’ on the other,’ she said.
‘Maybe everything happens for a reason. It’s as if we were set this challenge to see how well we can come out of it.’
Ms Downey said her sales assistant Carly Nunn was friends with one of the women who set up a Facebook page to fundraise for the family.
‘It was heartbreaking to read their story and realise they have to start again completely from scratch,’ she said.
‘Putting myself in their shoes, I would have been absolutely devastated.’
On August 21, Mia Jade will host a fundraiser at the clothing and accessories boutique.
‘We are keeping the doors open with cash donations and 10 per cent of sales being donated to Sarah and Daniel,’ Ms Downey said.
‘Pretty much all the shops in Subiaco help each other out ” for example The Witch’s Cauldron has donated a dinner for two and lots of locals are coming.
‘Since Sarah and Daniel’s wedding is only a couple of weeks away, it would be wonderful to make their day a bit more special.’
Ms Brodie said the generosity of her friends, family and even complete strangers had completely blown her away.
