Rokeby to get a facelift

The plans include installation of bud lighting in four street trees at the Hay Street and Churchill Avenue intersections, 70 footpath planter boxes, upgraded street furniture, all weather seating, two temporary parklets within existing car bays and new banner poles on Hay Street.

However, Cr Mark Burns said he questioned the lack of detail in the proposal and whether the City of Subiaco could stay within budget.

What kind of pot plants do we get for $217 each, and who will water them? I fully support action on Rokeby Road, but this plan is based on an unachievable low number, Cr Burns said.

Chief executive Ian Hill said councillors needed to trust its staff to do their jobs because there were many elements involved with the plans.

To cross-examine staff at this stage of the night and at this stage of the project would be misadventure, Mr Hill said.

Cr Lee Hemsley said he did not need to know the detail, as he had complete confidence in the staff.

Cr Stephanie Stroud said the long overdue upgrades were symbolic of greater change to come with the town centre Public Realm Plan. Public WiFi is also being considered.
