Rottnest Island reopened after shark sightings close beaches

UPDATE: Rottnest Island has been reopened to swimmers after a series of shark reports shut down the beaches today.

Lifeguards at The Basin reopened the beach after there were no further sightings.

EARLIER: SURF Life Saving has closed Rottnest Island due to shark sightings.

There has been a series of shark sightings off the Island this morning, including two three-metre hammerhead sharks, and an unspecified 3.5m shark.

The sharks were spotted 500m offshore, but the organisation moved to close beaches on the island just before 10.30am.
