ROTTNEST Island quokkas are up for adoption.
For $20, visitors get to name their quokka and receive an adoption certificate and a stuffed version of the marsupial to take home.
Visitor Centre customer service assistant Alanna Cooper said money raised through adoptions went to the Rottnest Foundation to fund the conservation of quokkas and heritage sites on the Island.
“It’s the most popular thing we sell in the Visitor Centre,” Miss Cooper said.
“There’s a range of people buying them from kids to older people, it’s just a good little souvenir to take home.”
Miss Copper said the initiative also taught visitors more about the quokka.
“People always ask what the quokkas eat. We put an emphasis on the importance of not touching or feeding the quokkas,” she said.
“It’s a good education tool.”
