President Ted Zappara said the group lost about 20 guides a year.
Mr Zappara said guides had various responsibilities so were never doing the same thing.
He said there were guided tours of landmarks like the lighthouse and Oliver Hill that covered the history of the island, the meet and greet desk in the information centre and the museum.
‘We get all sorts of people volunteer, from senior physicians to mums and dads,’ Mr Zappara said. ‘Most people like coming here for the ambience.’
