Rotto ready for Leavers

Leavers will get free access to the island’s water fun park, musical entertainment and sausage sizzles during the annual pilgrimage.

Rottnest Island Authority chief executive Paolo Amaranti said that over the years, the authority had learned what Leavers wanted.

Mr Amaranti said there was entertainment, safe houses, sausage sizzles all night and ‘we keep them hydrated for free’.

‘We know they are going to come and enjoy themselves,’ he said.

‘We love Leavers and just want to make sure they look after themselves and we help them do that.

‘The facilities we have here are second to none.

‘We have a nursing post, police, volunteer groups come in and we work together in a small location and can respond quickly.’

Mr Amaranti said the Leavers had become more responsible over the past two years.

‘They’re not drinking as much and they tend to be in small groups,’ he said.
