THE Royal WA Historical Society will host its annual Giant Secondhand Book Sale next weekend.

There will be more than 22,000 donated items, including books, LP records, magazines, maps and DVDs, up for grabs on April 6 and 7 from 8.30am-5pm.

There is also a selection of VHS tapes that have proved valuable in recent times with Disney releases fetching hundreds of dollars online.

An auction of 25 items will be held on the Saturday from 10.30am with one of the most valuable a copy of The Birds of Edward Lear that includes eight of the original 12 bird plates.

Volunteer Marie Francoise Scott, of Floreat, said the society relied on fundraising from events like the auction and donations from the community.
