Todd Soulas applied for the position in January by writing an essay focusing on intellectual property regulation that was reviewed by various European professors.

Two weeks ago he found out he had made the cut and was invited to fly to Switzerland to participate in the model, as well as be a part of major lectures from some of the world’s top professors.

‘I was actually quite surprised,’ the 22-year-old said.

‘I was doing a lot of other things at the time, so it had fell to the back of my mind but when I received the email I was ecstatic.’

Mr Soulas is currently completing a law degree with international relations and economics at the University of WA.

He said he was most looking forward to building new contacts and gaining international experience, hard to get in Australia.

‘I’m now looking forward to being able to interact with the other invited students and professors and the WTO,’ Mr Soulas said.

‘Living in Australia it’s very hard to get that international engagement sometimes.’

The event will be held in Switzerland in April and a select few will also see the real World Trade Organisation in Geneva over two days.
