BOATIE Shane Anderson says supporting swimmers in the annual Port to Pub is just as rewarding for the support crew as the participants.

The Dalkeith resident has skippered boats for teams and used his boat as part of the event’s official fleet on the day.

“You’re supporting swimmers that have trained for a long time and it’s wonderful to help them achieve their goals,” Mr Anderson said.

“It’s a pretty awesome thing to be able to claim you’ve crossed the Rottnest Channel.”

Mr Anderson said that as a skipper, he was responsible for keeping swimmers on track from Leighton Beach to Rottnest Island and helping swimmers with nutrition and wellbeing during the swim.

He said Port to Pub was a well-managed event with less numbers than other crossings making it easier for skippers to navigate.
