Special day for spina bifida awareness at Rocky Bay

Jon BassettWestern Suburbs Weekly

AN open day bringing greater awareness of spina bifida will be held at disability services provider Rocky Bay in Mosman Park on Friday.

Spina bifida is a birth defect affecting the spinal cord.

“In 2015, Rocky Bay started to provide the services previously delivered by the Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Association of Western Australia, with around 80 members of the association joining Rocky Bay’s customer base,” a Rocky Bay spokeswoman said.

In 2016-17, four per cent of Rocky Bay’s customers had spina bifida, and it has established an advisory committee to support those with the condition.

The open day will feature the Scotch College Pipe Band, garden games and a sausage sizzle from 1.30pm to 2pm.
