Renae Sayers (28) and Tom Coe (28) were invited to perform at the annual event on the main stage and will alternate between the two shows daily throughout the festival.
The pair started working at Scitech four years ago, joining within a week of each other, and have performed the Ignite Your Curiosity Show to thousands of people since its launch in 2011, using it to launch the 2012 Beijing International Science Festival.
Renae said the show encouraged audiences to ask questions about science because the experiments, such as inflating balloons using liquid nitrogen and breathing fireballs with cornflour, were choreographed to music and the presenters did not use language to explain what they were doing.
‘We hopefully ignite their curiosity so they’re the ones making their own connections and seeing the relevance, and then at the end provoked to ask questions and engage,’ she said.
Tom said while many people thought the best part of their job was conducting the experiments, the greatest reward for him was sparking the visitors’ interest in science.
