Steve’s Bar and Cafe team up with WA fashion label Ae’lkemi for Melbourne Cup

STEVE’S Bar and Cafe has teamed up with WA fashion label Ae’lkemi to host their biggest and best Melbourne Cup event yet.

Steve’s general manager Glen Parsons said he had “pushed the limits” with Melbourne Cup for four years.

“We changed the format and went party-style rather than sit-down, which changed the dynamics of the event,” he said.

“It’s grown over past few years; we’ve gotten more relaxed with how we bring on our sponsors.”

About 500 people were expected to attend.

Mr Parsons said this year he involved bigger players such as Ae’lkemi and was happy to have them on board for Perth’s “most luxurious” Melbourne Cup event.

“We’re expecting it to be big – we have a licensed marquee in the car park, which is a first for us, we have Sir Botanical florist on board, Porsche is involved, as well as Halo Diamonds again this year and we will be raffling off a 1.25 yellow carat diamond,” he said.

“We’re in an affluent area so a lot of my patrons drink Moet and spend a little bit more.”

Ae’lkemi founder and designer Alvin Fernandez said his fashion show at Steve’s on Melbourne Cup day would have a similar vibe to his recent Perth Fashion Festival show.

“We’re really excited to be on board in collaboration with Steve’s this year as the demographic and clientele is well suited with Ae’lkemi’s brand,” he said.
