CAR thieves dumped a stolen mine site utility vehicle in the middle of Cottesloe Beach overnight after it was stolen in the Goldfields 600km away .

The Toyota Hilux utility was left bogged to its axels, with two wheels damaged, after it was driven off the seawall at the end of the beach’s main access ramp.

The ute managed to travel about 70m across sand before it was left near the beach volleyball courts.

Cottesloe surf lifesavers alerted police, whose Cottesloe patrol examined the vehicle with forensic officers about 9am this morning.

Empty alcohol cans littered the sand around the vehicle, but it is not known if they were drunk by the thieves.

The ute’s stolen number plates were removed by police.

Cottesloe Police Sergeant Gelmi said it initially appeared the vehicle was not connected to other crimes during its journey from Kalgoorlie, but its link to the stolen plates would be investigated.

The ute remains on the beach.
