The move comes after a 26-year-old man and 21-year-old woman were stabbed in an unprovoked attack on January 18.

Scarborough police acting Senior Sergeant Paul Beccarelli said the pair were injured while walking to their car via the laneway next to the Luna Maxi Mart shopping centre about 9.20pm.

It is believed they were involved in a verbal altercation with two teenagers not known to them.

Police allege a 15-year-old girl armed with scissors threatened to stab them before lunging at the woman and stabbing her in the side, which punctured her lung.

She also received several smaller wounds on her arm.

Sgt Beccarelli said they believe a 17-year-old girl with the accused then “joined in” an assault on both victims.

The man was stabbed in the wrist, causing potential tendon damage.

He said members of the public flagged down police officers who were patrolling nearby and the accused were arrested “immediately”.

The injured man and woman were taken to hospital by ambulance, where they are reportedly in a stable condition.

The 15-year-old girl from Waterford and 17-year-old Midland girl appeared in Perth Children’s Court on Monday charged with two counts of intent to do grievous bodily harm or doing grievous bodily harm to another.

They were both remanded in custody, with the older girl to face court again on January 28 and the 15-year-old’s next court appearance scheduled for February 3.
