PERTH and Wembley police are tightening the pressure on crime by fitting special screws to stop number plates being stolen from inner-city and western suburbs streets.
“Licence plate theft is rising, so the Perth district police and Bunnings Homebase Subiaco are working together to offer free anti-theft screws,” Sergeant Warren Ameduri said.
Recent incidents include 11 licence plates stolen from several streets in West Leederville between 10am on August 11 and 1am the following morning.
Stolen licence plates are used to hide the identities of vehicles used in crimes
Sgt Ameduri said police would now fit the anti-theft screws to cars’ licence plates.
The fitting will be at Bunnings Homebase, Salvado Road, Subiaco between 2pm and 6pm on September 6.
