Subiaco: Education Department says no Inner City College bus bays on Coghlan Road

Jessica WarrinerWestern Suburbs Weekly

THE Education Department has confirmed bus services for the new Inner City College will run from Roberts Road, not Coghlan Road, after concerns were raised by Subiaco councillors at their last meeting.

A spokeswoman for the department said parent pick up and drop off bays will be on Coghlan Road, visitor parking will be in the bays outside of peak times, and bus services will be on Roberts Road.

Western Suburbs Weekly reported on parking around the Inner City College in May, at which time the Education Department said there would be a student drop off and pick up area, visitor parking and space for bus services all on Coghlan Road.

The following month, Nedlands MLA Bill Marmion asked Minister Paul Papalia, representing the Minister for Education and Training Sue Ellery, further questions about the site in parliament; Mr Papalia said there would be bus services on Coghlan Road.

Cr Stephanie Stroud introduced an elected member’s motion requesting Mayor Penny Taylor write to education minister Sue Ellery to clarify the statement by Mr Papalia.

“This is new information; it has serious repercussions for the road,” Cr Stroud said.

“If by some bizarre chance they’ve made a mistake, let them write and say that.”

The motion was carried 6-4.

Planning Services manager Alex Petrovski said the bus bays were approved for Roberts Road only, and superseded plans for bays on Coghlan Road.
