THE FIRST principal for Subiaco’s Inner City College has been named.

Belridge Secondary College principal John Burke will take up the position in July and prepare the school for its 2020 opening.

Mr Burke has been at Belridge since 2015, was previously the principal of Hedland Senior High School from 2011 to 2015, and was also associate principal at Kwinana Senior High School from 2007 to 2010 during its transition to Gilmore College.

He is an Independent Public School Principal Fellow, having completed an intensive leadership program in conjunction with Harvard University Graduate School of Education.

Mr Burke said he was looking forward to taking on the leadership of the new school.

“It’s a unique opportunity and the possibilities are endless for the students, their families and the community of Subiaco and surrounding areas,” he said.

“I’m excited about working with the community to build a college that excels, both in the way we care for students and in their academic success.”

Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery said she was delighted to welcome Mr Burke as the foundation principal.

“He will be joining the school during an exciting time; the forward works are underway, and the main building works will start in the middle of the year,” she said.

“Mr Burke’s leadership will no doubt help set students up for the jobs of the future.”
