Subiaco Oval future could be decided by next week

AN AGREEMENT is imminent between the City of Subiaco and the State Government on the future of Subiaco Oval.

Mayor Penny Taylor made the announcement at a council meeting on Tuesday, saying negotiations were underway and a memorandum of understanding (MOU) was expected to be on the table as soon as next week.

“It’s the most significant redevelopment our city has seen for some time,” Ms Taylor said.

“I wanted to formally mention it because it’s the most common question I’ve had since becoming mayor.”

Ms Taylor said the City had to look at how a management order with the State Government would operate, and they were seeking to retain green space, have open active areas, and maintain strong design principles throughout the Subi East precinct.

“While the MOU is largely about shared principles, importantly it demonstrates a constructive, co-operative approach between the City and the owner of the project, the State Government,” Ms Taylor said.

“We hope we can help with intel on the area.

“Good local governments know their community and the street-corner dynamics.”

The MOU will be considered at a special closed council meeting and will need to be approved by both the council and State Government, with details then expected to become public.
