Subiaco’s New Normal to shut its doors

Victoria RificiWestern Suburbs Weekly

NEW Normal Bar and Kitchen will shut its doors on April 18 after almost two years of business in Subiaco.

New Normal owner Darryl Naidu said the business was simply not receiving enough revenue leading to its planned closure.

“We weren’t able to minimise our costs to the extent revenue would support – we saw it falling year on year and to the end where you can’t actually staff a venue to support the demand you are seeing,” he said.

“We had a lot of necessary work to rectify issues that were carried into opening and were hoping to have made the money we needed to achieve these goals before seeing out another winter.

“We are most often very busy on Friday and Saturday but during the week it’s quiet and it’s a shame because it’s a very viable concept.”

Mr Naidu said it was too complex of an issue to comment on Subiaco’s current state of business turnover.

“Some factors we would like to have seen a bit different but there is no point complaining about the situation, we made a fairly educated decision to open up in Subiaco when we did and obviously it just has not worked out this time,” he said.

“You obviously do not open a business to close it down so to be here is a shame though we have certainly proven a concept that was previously thought to be out of reach.

“In that sense, it’s been a good experience and we do love the community that we’re embedded in and we hope someone is able to come in and pick up where we have left off, we look forward to seeing a kitchen that operates as efficiently as ours has”

New Normal will continue business until it’s April 18 close.
