Subiaco’s planning scheme and strategy to be set in stone

Victoria RificiWestern Suburbs Weekly

SUBIACO’S Local Planning Strategy and Scheme No. 5 is expected to be finalised for good in a matter of weeks.

The City presented the strategy and scheme to the WAPC on Tuesday – the final step in ensuring the planning body understands what the Subiaco community wants for the future of its city.

The scheme will now be in the hands of Planning Minister Rita Saffioti for her final determination.

“If Council had buckled under the pressure to reject the Strategy and LPS5 neither the Minister nor the WAPC would have known what we wanted – they certainly do now,” Mayor Penny Taylor said.

“From today’s delegation, the WAPC and the Minister are clear on what the City of Subiaco believes is an acceptable planning outcome.”

Ms Taylor said the scheme addressed the State Government’s request for planning for the future and sets out appropriate areas where responsible growth can occur towards 2050.

“Activity centres to assist local businesses to flourish, urban tree canopies with green links, transport networks and so on are all included to address planning in a holistic way,” she said.

“This is a comprehensive Local Planning Strategy and Scheme informed by our community and designed to protect what we know and love about our City of Subiaco.”

The WAPC’s decision and feedback on the strategy will be released in the next two weeks, and Ms Saffioti’s decision on the LPS5 will be made in weeks to come.
