Giovanni TorreWestern Suburbs Weekly

SUBIACO’s Samaritans Suicide Crisis Line is marking 50 years of service to the community.

The Samaritans are putting a call out to former volunteers to join current volunteers in commemorating the work that has been done over the past five decades.

The Samaritans is a crisis line that provides 24/7 anonymous crisis support.

Callers may be suicidal or distressed by factors in their life and need someone to hear them.

The organisation helps callers “work through their situation and onto their journey back”.

“The Samaritans receive over 10,000 calls per month from people who often have no-one to support them. The Samaritans can do that. If you are in distress you can call Samaritans on 135 247,” a spokesman said.

“If you are a past volunteer of The Samaritans – formerly called Samaritans Crisis Line – then we’d love to have you attend our celebration which is generously supported by Volunteers WA.

“The celebration will be held during Volunteer Week on Saturday May 13.”

If you are a past volunteer or know one, get in touch with The Samaritans for more details.
