Survey on stadium move

Staff ReporterWestern Suburbs Weekly

Curtin University student Kate Miller is investigating what would happen to the area’s business district when football games move to the new stadium in Burswood in 2018.

An employee at Paterson’s Stadium, Ms Miller was inspired to survey the area when looking for data showing the impact of major attractions taken out of an area.

‘There’s plenty of research to show what happens when you bring something to an area but not when you take it away,’ she said.

The 22-year-old has sent out hundreds of survey requests asking for feedback from local businesses.

‘I’ve only got about 15 to 20 back at the moment,’ Ms Miller said. ‘I’m predicting that there will be an economic loss though and that Subiaco will change.

‘Which is a real shame because it’s taken a lot to build it up to what it is now.’

Ms Miller said she did think the parking and overcrowding issues would be solved without the football games.

‘I’m just looking for an honest response from businesses so I can really show how it’s going to affect the area,’ she said.
