Thieves hit buiding sites

‘Thieves use bolt cutters and angle grinders to get access and to take valuables,’ Sergeant Kate Vivian said.

Wembley and Cottesloe police have had at least 17 reports of building sites being targetted for tools, building materials and other valuables in the past month.

They include five robberies each at sites in Subiaco and Nedlands, two each in West Leederville and Floreat and one each in Shenton Park, Claremont and Crawley.

Recent incidents include a hotwater system taken from a home being built on Queenslea Drive, Claremont overnight on December 5, and a welding torch being used to open a sea container, from which nothing was taken, at a Carrington Street, Nedlands, factory overnight on December 13.

Tradesmen’s tools stored off-site are also targets.

Tools worth $700 were taken from a utility on Stirling Highway, Nedlands, overnight on December 10,

‘Heading into the summer holiday period, all security at building sites, and private tool security, must be addressed,’ Sgt Vivian said.

‘Either secure them, or take them home over Christmas.’
