Property sale may recoup taxpayer rort

AAPWestern Suburbs Weekly

THE sale of a Tokyo apartment is expected to recoup all the money Western Australia’s disgraced former trade commissioner to Japan rorted from taxpayers.

A Corruption and Crime Commission report released in March last year revealed Craig Peacock had for many years used his position to pocket more than $500,000 in allowances he was not entitled to.

Attorney General John Quigley told ABC radio on Tuesday the state government had instructed lawyers in Japan to sell the property and all money owed by Mr Peacock, and perhaps a small surplus, could be recouped if a valuation estimate was achieved.

Mr Quigley said a December 6 deadline to repay the money had been missed after numerous extensions, and with interest, over $600,000 was owed.
