STUDENTS at Subiaco dance studio The Graduate College of Dance have learned from some of the world’s best.

Ballet grand master and Singapore Dance Theatre artistic director Janek Schergen visited with students at the college this month, sharing his knowledge and experience.

The ballet dancer and teacher also brought two of his principal dancers, Chihiro Uchido and Kenya Nakamura.

The Graduate College of Dance director Dawn Weller said she had developed a fruitful relationship over the years with Schergen and was honoured to have him at her studio.

“It is a rare honour for someone of Janek Schergen’s stature and experience to come to Perth,” she said. “It’s priceless what was given to students and the advice and suggestions he gave them.

“Simply to have the opportunity to work with an artistic director… it is the highest level you can go in ballet and it’s valuable for students.”
