Town of Cambridge to readvertise planning amendments

Julian WrightWestern Suburbs Weekly

THE Town of Cambridge will advertise a modified Amendment 31, in light of changes made by former Planning Minister John Day.

The Town was notified on April 7 that Mr Day intended to ask the council to modify and readvertise Town Planning Scheme Amendment 31.

The original proposal was adopted by councillors in July 2015.

Key modifications of the new proposal include split coding to enable multi-dwellings up to R30 coding within 400m of local centres, allowance of two dwellings on corner blocks 900sq m or above in City Beach and Floreat, and Cambridge Street lots to be split-coded R40/R60 to allow for multiple dwellings.

A traffic impact assessment will also be undertaken to assess the traffic implications and a further report will be presented at the May council meeting with details of community consultation ahead of public advertising.

The Town has sought legal advice regarding Mr Day’s modifications.

Councillor Sonia Grinceri declared an interest in the item at last night’s meeting but the other councillors voted to allow her to participate in the discussion, but not to vote on the item.

The latest the Town can submit its recommendation to the Minister is December this year.
