THE inaugural Mondo Community Warriors truffle auction for Lifeline WA raised $8750.

The first truffles of the season from Splendid Valley Truffles and Cypress Hill Truffles were auctioned along with 15kg of Wagyu ribeye beef donated by Gina Rinehart and 15kg of Nick Tana’s Mottainai lamb, and sold to Mark Caruso for $6000.

Mr Caruso donated the 1kg of truffles back for a further auction with chef and Prepare, Produce, Provide culinary director David Gilmour the highest bidder at $2750.

Mondo Community Warriors founder Vince Garreffa said it was amazing that one of the most exclusive products in WA tourism was being matched with Wagyu beef and Mottainai lamb.

Mr Garreffa said the auction was aimed at chefs, chief executives and managers of hotels and restaurants all over Australia.

Australia is now the third biggest producer of truffles behind Spain and France.

The truffle season runs from May until the end of August.
