TWO friends with artistic flair will showcase both oil paintings and clay sculptures in their exhibition Two Artists Two Forms in the Swan Valley.

City Beach resident of 27 years Helen Robins and her friend, Chittering Valley resident and exhibition partner Roseanne Watson, launched an art spectacle to express their friendship of 35 years on Thursday .

“We’re both at a level now where we have a large body of work so we thought it’s about time to combine it all and show the public,” Robins said.

“It’s a true expression of our friendship and we’re so excited.”

The creative pair are both community award winning artists who will exhibit together for the very first time.

“Roseanne and I met at Churchlands College and we had a shared interest in art and maintained a friendship over the years,” Robins said.

“She is an oil painter and I’m a ceramic artist – I’ve been an artist since my early 20s but I only established my own studio in 2015.”

Robins, who was previously a primary school teacher, said she only committed herself full time to ceramic art in the past three years.

“What I love most is the pure pleasure of working with form and material,” she said.

Watson, who is also a teacher, said her vibrant oil paintings would portray a true reflection of her personal responses to the WA landscape, in particular the Chittering Valley.

Robins said her love for the coast inspired her artistic work.

“I guess my forms are very much similar to coastal forms,” she said.

“My ceramic forms are also inspired by my surroundings and are an emotional response to the environment and events in my life.”

The artistic duo said exhibit goers could expect to see contemporary abstract art in both landscape and ceramic forms.
