UnWined Subiaco: rickshaw rides to delight Perth foodies at this year’s event

Matt ZisWestern Suburbs Weekly

FOR a man who has spent 20 years organising wine and food events, Richard Campbell still delights in providing new ways to entertain Perth foodies.

On October 28 and 29 it is free Rickshaw rides through the streets of the suburb as part of UnWined Subiaco, a growing two-day showcase of fine local wineries and produce.

Mr Campbell said this year’s show at Market Square Park is set to be its biggest yet, with more than 40 local wineries plus food beer, cider and other stall operators confirmed.

Among new exhibitors are Pickering Brook’s Core Cider, Margaret River’s Voyager Estate, 10 Chains Winery from Pemberton, Below & Above from Pemberton, Poacher’s Ridge wines from the Great Southern, dumpling favourite Miss Chow’s; Rice Baby with its modern Asian cuisine and premium Japanese sake producer SuperSake.

It is 20 years since CMS Events founded the original WA Wine and Food Festival.

Mr Campbell is quietly proud of the personal milestone, but intent on sharing the celebrations with attendees of UnWined.

“As well as the wine glasses that everyone receives having a commemorative logo recognising 20 years, someone will win an overnight stay and dinner package at Crown just for coming along,” he said.

“That’s special to me because Burswood is where the original event began, back in the old Burswood Dome.”

Both days at UnWined will include live music entertainment and wine seminars focused on Riesling revival, warm and cool climate Shiraz and sweet wine styles.

Pre-purchase tickets to a VIP Club Lounge, which will be expanded from last year with seats and room for up to 100 guests, are also on sale. The $115 tickets include complimentary wine and food from the Great Southern region.

UnWined Subiaco WHEN: Saturday and Sunday, 11.30am to 5pm WHERE: Market Square Park, Roberts Road, Subiaco TICKETS: From $26 if pre-purchased at www.wineandfood.com.au. Premium and Club Lounge options also available
