HOCKEY players from UWA have been selected to represent WA in the Australian Hockey League (AHL) next month.

Chris Bausor, Frank Main and Tom Wickham were selected for the men’s team the WA Thundersticks, with Pippa Morgan and Caitlin Pascov selected for the women’s team, the WA Diamonds.

This year is the first time the AHL has held both the men and women’s competitions at the same venue.

Hockey WA high performance manager Jason Butcher said the team was a good mix of players.

“We understand we have to regenerate this team and over the last two years a number of youngsters have been blooded in the tournaments and also through the games that have been played throughout the year,” she said.

“This is an experienced team that the selectors have named but there is a large cohort in the broader mid 20s bracket, which will give us a strong core to place the next generation around in the coming years.

“It’s a team we have a real trust in and we are also confident in what has been delivered to bridge the gap as we transition this team into the future.”

The Australian Hockey League 2016 is taking place at Perth Hockey Stadium from September 29 to October.
