A REVIEW of campus security was already underway before a pig’s head was discovered near a Muslim prayer room at the University of WA last Sunday.
According to a UWA spokesman, the review was not sparked by the discovery of the pig’s head in a toilet near the prayer room.
“The University is very saddened by this deplorable act,” he said.
“It is concerning that people using the UWA Muslim prayer room have been targeted this way.
“We would like to reinforce that UWA strives to support a culturally inclusive and tolerant campus community and the University will offer help and support to our Muslim students at this time.”
The matter was reported to police.
Wembley Police Acting Sergeant Craig Harris is leading the investigation.
Sgt Harris said he could not comment on the incident.
A WA Police spokeswoman said inquiries were ongoing and there were no further details police could provide.
“Between midday and 12.50pm, a pig’s head was discovered in a toilet located in a public toilet block,” she said.
“The toilets are located near a prayer room for Muslim students.
“At this time we cannot say if this incident was in anyway related to students using the prayer room.”
