Edwards will appear at Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court on Wednesday, February 28 on this and other previously laid charges.

Commissioner Dawson said Miss Spiers family was having a “very traumatic time” and urged people to respect their privacy.

“Earlier this month, police made a public appeal to locate a vehicle of interest, namely a white 1992 Toyota Camry station wagon,” he said.

“This vehicle has not been located.

“We again urge anyone with information about this vehicle who hasn’t already contacted Crime Stoppers to please do so now.

“We know it was deregistered in 2008 but we don’t know what happened to it after that.

“An image of that vehicle and its vehicle identification number can be found on the Crime Stoppers website.”

Commissioner Dawson said he could not comment further now that the matter was appearing before the courts.

Miss Spiers’ body has never been found.

Edwards, formerly of Kewdale was charged more than 12 months ago with the murders of Jane Rimmer and Ciara Glennon.

Ms Rimmer and Ms Glennon were found dead after disappearing from Claremont in 1996 and 1997 respectively.

He was also charged with two other attacks on young women – a 17-year-old in Claremont in 1995, and an 18-year-old in Huntingdale in 1988.
