WA veterans to gain free access to mental health services

Victoria RificiWestern Suburbs Weekly

WEST Australian veterans will now be able to receive free access to mental health services.

RSLWA and St John of God (SJG) Community Mental Health Services will partner up to provide veterans with tailored, low-cost or free counselling to people experiencing mental health issues.

SJG Community Mental Health Services co-ordinator Paul Loseby said the service would work with the RSLWA to support veterans experiencing psychological distress.

“We know that mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression are as common among veterans as the broader community, however those who have been exposed to extreme and traumatic events are placed at greater risk,” he said.
