Montana ArdonWestern Suburbs Weekly

THE WA Football Commission (WAFC) is urging fans to share their fondest memories of Subiaco Oval with the final AFL season at the venue kicked off.

WAFC chief executive Gavin Taylor said with 2017 being the final season of AFL at Subiaco, the WAFC would be capturing and recording a collection of people’s greatest memories at the ground.

“Subiaco Oval has a rich history as WA’s home of football and many West Australians have very fond memories of attending their first ever footy game at the ground, witnessing a thrilling win or sharing memories with their family and friends,” he said.

“The footy experience for many people over the years has not only been about passionately supporting their team but the close friendships and sense of community that has been forged.

“Some people have been sitting in same seats for more than 20 years and developed life-long friendships with those who sit around them.

“We want to hear the stories about their greatest moments at the ground and share them to commemorate the final year of AFL at Subiaco Oval and celebrate its cultural significance.”

Everyone who shares a memory will go in the draw to win four premium tickets to West Coast or Fremantle’s last home and away game at Subiaco Oval in 2017, as well as a $200 food and beverage voucher.

Memories can include a written submission, photo or video, outlining a personal recollection, fondest memory or favourite moment at Subiaco Oval.

WAFC staff will also be interviewing fans as they arrive at AFL games throughout the season to record their favourite memories of Subiaco Oval, as well as WA Football legends who have rooms and gates named in their honour at the venue.
