Julian WrightWestern Suburbs Weekly

THE much anticipated Wembley mini golf course will have its grand opening today.

The $3.5 million, 18-hole course is part of the Wembley Golf Course upgrades including restaurant 300 Acres, function facility Ambrose Estate and children’s playground.

Ambrose Estate replaced the Fairway Tavern, which was built in the 1960s and demolished in mid 2015 to make way for the development.

Town of Cambridge Keri Shannon said councillors had a test run of the new course and councillor Sonia Grinceri managed a hole in one at one of the trickier holes.

Wembley Gold Course history

The Wembley Downs Golf Course Ltd was registered as a company in 1933 and was granted a lease of land of 150 acres north of the Boulevard on the edge of the City Beach Estate part of the Endowment Lands/Limekilns Estate.

The lease was for 10 years and the company was to pay a peppercorn rent.

Authority was given to proceed at once to clear the land and the City Engineer to widen the plank road to 15 feet.
