Wembley carwash developer to appeal State Administrative Tribunal refusal

Victoria RificiWestern Suburbs Weekly

DEVELOPERS of a proposed Automasters workshop and 24/7 car wash who were refused site acquisition in Wembley by the Town of Cambridge will soon appeal a State Administrative Tribunal (SAT) rejection.

The Town refused the development application due to the 127 public submissions objecting to the car wash and its expected noise.

The applicant later requested the SAT review the Town’s resolution, but the decision was upheld at a May 15 hearing.

Cambridge Mayor Keri Shannon said while it was the applicant’s legal right to appeal the SAT ruling, the Town would be defending its original decision and was confident the appeal would be dismissed.

“The Town of Cambridge has been totally consistent and diligent in applying the planning laws in this matter and articulating the basis for the applications refusal,” she said.

“It is important for the Town to defend this position to protect the amenity of the surrounding residents and ensure that their right to enjoy their home is not unduly impacted by this development.”

A date for the SAT appeal has not been set.
