Western suburbs derby to kickstart premier cricket resumption

LEAGUE leaders Claremont-Nedlands and neighbours Subiaco Floreat will meet in a local derby on Saturday at Floreat Park Oval to mark the resumption of premier cricket after the Christmas break.

Premier Cricket went on a two-week hiatus over the Christmas period, but returns with back-to-back one-day fixtures this Saturday and Sunday from 11am across the metropolitan area.

The Tigers face the Lions on Saturday, with Claremont-Nedlands then to meet second-placed Fremantle in a top-of-the-table clash at Cresswell Park on Sunday.

Subiaco Floreat follow the local derby with a difficult trip to Fletcher Park to face fourth-placed Perth, who’ll be without batsman Jonathan Wells.

The Lions are currently sixth on the table and hopeful of pushing for finals in the second half of the campaign in what’s likely to be veteran Alex Malcolm’s final season for the club.

University enjoyed their maiden win of the season in Round Eight prior to the Christmas break and will resume against Mount Lawley away and then Wanneroo at James Oval.
