LIGHT up the barbie, hit the waves and crack open a cold one for a hot Australia Day this Sunday.

A sunny day is predicted for January 26, especially over the eastern suburbs, with a maximum forecast of 36 degrees.

In addition to the citizenship ceremonies held by councils, there will be family-friendly events offered during the day and well into the night.

NORTH

Australia Day on the water, Ocean Reef

Ocean Reef Sea Sports Club will celebrate Australia day with great music, good food and cheap drinks.

Tickets are $35 adults or $20 children aged 12 to 6, with kids aged 5 and under free. Call 9401 8800.

DETAILS: Doors open noon to 9pm, with a barbecue buffet from 1pm – 3pm and live music from Dr Bogus from 3.30pm – 6.30pm.

Pie eating competition, Mindarie

There will also be free kids activities including Vegemite finger painting, crafts and face painting, and WA Birds of Prey at The Boardwalk from noon to 4pm, while Cabana will host an Aussie pool party with DJ from noon.

To register, email your name and phone number to festivals@themarinamindarie.com with Pie Eating Competition in the subject line before 5pm on the Friday.

Duncraig Lions Australia Day breakfast

Lions Club of Duncraig will host a community celebration with music, raffles, games, pony rides, an animal farm, face painting, bouncy castles and balloon twisting.

Tickets are $5 per adult of $15 for a family of two adults and up to three kids. Bring a picnic rug, chair and sun shelter.

Wanneroo Festival, Wanneroo

Celebrate the City of Wanneroo’s diverse multicultural community at the Wanneroo Festival.

It will feature music from Jordan Anthony and the Subih Brothers, cultural performances, lion dancers, stilt walkers, a snake charmer, roving Disney characters, food trucks and fireworks.

DETAILS: 4pm – 8.30pm at the Wanneroo Showgrounds.

Stirling Lions Australia Day breakfast, Nollamara

Lions Club of Stirling will be putting on a cooked Aussie breakfast with live music, free children’s rides, bubble soccer and a cuddly animal farm.

Cost is $5 for adults, $2 for children.

SOUTH

City of Canning Australia Day Celebrations

The City will be supporting the Rossmoyne Rotary Club in their annual Australia Day Breakfast being held at Shelley Foreshore.

The Rotary Club event will feature entertainment from the Canning City Brass Band, Acapello West, a bush band, Sri Lanka dance group and bush poetry. There will be activities for the kids, stalls and a display of vintage cars.

City of Mandurah Australia Day Citizenship Celebrations

Mandurah’s Australia Day celebrations will kick off with a big Aussie breakfast and will be followed by the official ceremony, welcoming more than 100 citizens.

The celebrations will end with a flotilla of boats on the estuary, competing for the best dressed title at about 11am.

Australia Day Festival, Coogee Beach

Local acts such as Binjareb Middars Dance Group and bands in the form of Chilli Con Curly, the Bradley Hall Band and Down Town Band will be playing in the park throughout the day, while there will also be watermelon eating and sandcastle building competitions.

Festival go-ers will be sorted for food with a free sausage sizzle in addition to multicultural options available to purchase.

City of Armadale Australia Day celebration

Minnawarra Park will be transformed into a family fun zone to come alive with carnival rises, local food van cuisines, children’s games, a water fun zone and a line up of local entertainment.

The fireworks display is planned to go ahead from 8.30pm and will be played in sync to the all Australian soundtrack broadcast over Heritage 107.3FM radio.

DETAILS: 5 – 9.30pm at Minnawarra Park, Armadale. This celebration is a smoke and alcohol-free event.

Celebration Zone, South Perth

New additions in 2020 include a vintage game and activities theme at the Celebration Zone of Fake Strong Man Weight Lifting and lots of old giant board games.

The City of South Perth will offer free shuttle services from George Burnett Leisure Centre and the City of South Perth Civic Centre.

One Day in Fremantle

Stories and songs, ceremony and celebration underpin a fresh approach to the City of Fremantle’s award-winning One Day event on Saturday, January 25.

This year the focus will be on the Bathers Beach and Kidogo Arthouse precinct for a showcase of Aboriginal food, culture and music with a particular emphasis on young and emerging talent.

EAST

Twilight Tunes Australia Day concert, Shire of Mundaring

Come along and join in the free family fun at the Shire’s inaugural Australia Day Concert featuring talented DJ Steve Fernandez, live music and a laser light show.

A face painter and giant bubble activity will be on hand for the kids. Concert goers are encouraged to bring a picnic or support local business.

Australia Day Celebrations and Fireworks, Bassendean

The Town of Bassendean is holding its annual Australia Day fireworks and celebrations event, with live performances, show-rides and food options.

Cool off at the Kalamunda Water Park’s pool party this Australia Day.

Launching for the first time 2020, Seaduction will be bringing a music filled day on the water. First release tickets cost $59.11.

Day Club on the Deck will bring flavours of the latest and most upfront house music, expanding on all elements with acoustic sounds from djs, live drum and saxophone.

8th Annual Australia Day Picnic, Nedlands

Relax on the foreshore and enjoy catering from the Club’s Galley with the option of some of Perth’s best food trucks, as well as the Club bar.

Kids can enjoy a slip and slide and lawn games while adults can relax with a wine or beer in hand, and enjoy the views before the fireworks kick off.

For the first time this year, sunset@subi concert series will bring Perth’s premier pub-rock band, Murphy’s Lore to the Lake Jualbup stage on January 26.

From 5pm to 7pm, Murphy’s Lore will perform classic Aussie hits including tunes from Cold Chisel, INXS, Powderfinger, John Farnham and ACDC.

Australia Day Festival, Cambridge

The Town of Cambridge’s Australia Day Festival includes barbecue breakfast supplied by the Lions Club of Floreat, citizenship ceremony and children’s entertainment under the shady gum trees.

Activities include a giant water slide, toddler zone, puppet show, indigenous performances, camel rides and baby animal farm.
