THE stock of tissue rolls is rapidly diminishing from Perth shops amid coronavirus fears.

A surge of shoppers who are buying toilet paper packs have stripped multiple Coles, Woolworths and Aldi bare, according to recent social media posts.

Bare shelves have prompted Woolworths to apply a limit on toilet paper packs per customer to ensure more people have access to the products.

“The purchase limit of four packs per customer transaction applies in-store and online,” Woolworths said in a statement.

“It will help shore up stock levels as suppliers ramp up local production and deliveries in response to higher than usual demand.”

Premier Mark McGowan said people needed to remain calm and take a common sense approach to the issue during a press conference on Tuesday.

“I would just urge people to stay calm, act normally and don’t panic,” he said.

“This sort of panic-buying is a bit unnecessary and stocking up on toilet paper, or baked beans or whatever it might be, I just don’t think is necessary for people to do.”

The statement from Woolworths states stores will be restocked with long-life food and groceries from their distribution centres but majority of the other products remain available.

“We apologise to customers for the inconvenience caused by temporary stock shortages and thank them for their patience.”
