MANY will remember Pro Hart, or “Mr Hart”, from the carpet ad where he constructed a dragonfly with food products.
A collection of works by the artist who died 12 years ago will be auctioned at McKenzies Auctioneers this month.
There’s a series of eighteen small vignettes plus a signature panel painted in 1985 that have been pieced together in one frame representing an overview of the artists range.
His ubiquitous dragonfly, ants, waterbirds and landscapes make this a collectable piece.
Another rarity depicts two men holding glasses – possibly full of beer and likely a tavern scene – titled ‘Corny Bill’ that was painted in 1978.
Managing director Peter McKenzie said that Pro Hart, in some ways, was one of Australia’s most recognised artists.
“We all remember him from his carpet ad when his cleaner exclaimed, ‘Mr Hart’, at the prospect of having to clean up his large dragonfly he had constructed upon the carpet using various foodstuffs,” he said.
“As he passed away some 12 years ago now, it is unlikely such a choice will be available in the foreseeable future.”
Pre-auction viewings at 8 Stirling Road, Claremont are from 11am-430pm on Saturday and Sunday, November 24 and 25 as well as Monday, November 26 from 11am-5:30pm.
The Auction is on Tuesday, November 27th from 6pm.
