Young scholars ready to match minds with best

The girls competed in a regional round of the World Scholars Cup, held at Shenton College at the beginning of June, where they qualified for the global round of the competition.

This year was just the second year that Australia has been included in the competition, which covers team debating, collaborative writing, problem-solving and critical thinking.

Competitors can also participate in an optional talent show.

Gifted and talented co-ordinator Louise Ormesher said the team competed in the regional round with gusto and showed exemplary sportsmanship.

We are delighted that they were triumphant in their efforts, walking away with many medals, two trophies and qualifying for the national rounds held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Ms Ormesher said.

The team is made up of Year 8 students Philippa Newman, Bridget Bradley and Jasmin Embleton and Year 9 students Kimberley Hince, Talei Williams and Rachelle Dollar.
