Opinion: Oh for a bit of peace and quiet

Julie Ramsay, SubiacoWestern Suburbs Weekly

I arrived home at 5pm after two busy days of Christmas markets and, like many people, I’m sure, in my neighbourhood, I just wanted some peace and quiet.

Oh, to be so lucky – there has been loud, thumping music playing non-stop for the past seven hours and, according to my husband, most of the day.

It was only a few weeks ago we had the Monster Jam too.

So, here’s the thing – I drove down Hay Street, Subiaco, yesterday to find a shemozzle going on with upgrading of water pipes and half of the street shut down.

This is after watching Subiaco shop owners slowly shut their doors over the past three years because they simply cannot afford to pay the ridiculous rents the greedy landlords are asking.

One surely doesn’t have to be that smart to say “Wake up, Subiaco”.

Stop selling yourselves out for loud, obnoxious noise and concert money without any regard for local residents, and focus on bringing your shopping and restaurant precinct back to life. Shame on you.
