PROPERTY developer Blackburne has purchased the Pavilion Markets site on Rokeby Road for $25 million.

Managing director Paul Blackburne said the site had sat derelict for many years and was an eyesore on prime land in the heart of Subiaco.

“The development of prime sites on train stations like Subiaco presents an opportunity to allow greater housing choice for the people of Perth,” he said.

“We intend to turn this 5,451sq m site into as world-class residential, retail, restaurant and entertainment precinct.

“We love the village atmosphere in Subiaco and this development will further enhance Subiaco’s appeal to families, young professionals, baby boomer, downsizers and investors alike.”

As well as providing more housing options, Mr Blackburne said the $250 million development would create an estimated 250 jobs, which would inject much-needed investment into Subiaco and the WA economy.

City of Subiaco mayor Penny Taylor said it was an exciting outcome, with Blackburne known for their respectful development and contribution to communities, plus Mr Blackburne knew the community well.

“Everyone in the community wants something in this site,” she said.

“We’re looking forward to working with them, because we want to see something good happening on this site.”
