WHAT do you do when you love the area where you live, but your house no longer meets your needs?

You build a new home.

The owners of this stunning home, designed and built in 2007 by Grandwood Homes, bought the previous house on the 969sq m block in 1997.

They loved the quiet area in south City Beach, close to the beach, parks and playgrounds, bike paths and schools, and when the old home became too run down they decided to rebuild rather than move elsewhere.

They wanted a more spacious open-plan home with high ceilings and four large bedrooms and four bathrooms to cater for the needs of their growing family.

While it is luxurious, and built to exacting standards, it truly is a home for a family with a range of entertaining spaces, including an activity room, family room, dining room, kitchen/meals area, alfresco area and gas-heated pool.

The home has been popular over the years and played host to multiple birthday parties and informal gatherings held for family, friends, and sporting teams.

“We have had a party of 80 here comfortably and seated 35 people for Christmas lunch,” the owners said.

“We’ve held junior footy team sausage sizzles, netball team parties and recovery sessions in the pool, and movie nights in the theatre room evolving into group sleep-overs.”

When you entertain you need a large functional kitchen and the owners describe the central kitchenliving area as a wonderful communal space.

“It’s a great place to have a casual drink, meal, afternoon tea with the kids after school, and to cook while chatting to guests so you’re never left out of the gathering,” they said.

“It’s been a homework bar, breakfast bar, and buffet area for large gatherings.

“When the sun is going down the whole area is flooded with a warm light, which is beautiful, especially in winter.”

The owners said they still love the area and home, but are looking for something they can lock and leave.

Their children are older, and weekends away are more possible, so downsizing makes sense.
