Hive Real Estate to lend local artists a hand

Natalie HordovWestern Suburbs Weekly

Director Janey Sanderson said the idea was the initiative of their property manager Bonnie Boogaard who, along with her partner Lance Ward, was a skilled artist.

“Bonnie suggested opening our newly refurbished office each month to exhibit and promote young artists,” she said.

“We’re aiming to provide a unique space for emerging artists to explore new concepts and show works in a setting that is free of curatorial and commercial concerns.”

Ms Sanderson said the focus was to show conceptual contemporary art, attracting artists that used a variety of mediums.

The artists will be able to sell their work if they wish, or simply take advantage of the opportunity to exhibit it.

The first exhibition at Hive, The Surface of Things, on March 29 featured new works by Mardi Crocker.

The next exhibition is on April 26 and will showcase work by multi-media artist Brent Harrison. n
