THE owners bought this executive-style two-storey residence in 2003.
“We were walking past when a home open was on and on the spur of the moment went in to have a look,” they said.
“It had a certain warmth and an understated elegance.
“The room and layout was immediately appealing for the age of our family at the time: our children were nine and 12 years old.
“It turned out to be an ideal home for growing teenagers.”
While it is on Selby Street, which can be busy at times, the owners said the layout, with bedrooms at the rear of the home, and the fact that it had been built back into the 837sq m block reduced any impact from the road.
“People will be pleasantly surprised,” they said. “Access to the property has also been enhanced by a full circular driveway giving the option to drive out on to the road rather than back out into traffic.
“It is another example of thoughtful planning for the location.”
The owners said the home was built in 1998 by Les Friday Homes for Senator Ross Lightfoot and his wife.
“It was apparently the location for many parties for prominent Perth identities and members of the political set,” they said.
“The lighting over the dining table is in the shape of the Southern Cross, which is an indication of a very patriotic owner.”
The owners have also done their share of entertaining over the years.
“With lots of rooms to utilise, we have had large family gatherings including an 85th birthday, 50th wedding anniversary, two 21st birthdays and several other large gatherings for school functions and meetings,” they said.
“Fifty-plus people is easily managed.”
On the ground floor the home has a formal lounge and dining room, which the owners said was a great place for entertaining.
There is also a spacious open-plan living/dining/kitchen area that opens to a courtyard and outdoor area.
“The large kitchen bench adjoining the family room is a wonderful, casual gathering place,” said the owners.
“The outdoor area sits among mature citrus trees, which shed soft shadows throughout the day and makes the long courtyard area a very pleasant place to be.”
The ground floor also includes a study, games/media room that opens to the courtyard, three bedrooms and the family bathroom.
Two of the bedrooms have built-in robes and one has a walk-in robe.
The master bedroom with large walk-in robe and glamorous spa ensuite is on the first floor with a parents’ retreat with built-in bookshelves.
The home’s features include coffered ceilings, granite benchtops in the kitchen, an Italian glass chandelier in the entry, ample storage throughout, airconditioning, solar panels, and a salt-water pool.
The owners have recently replaced all the floor tiles and carpets, repainted the home and updated the family bathrooms and all the toilets.
The home is an easy drive from the beach and city, close to schools, sporting facilities and public transport. Several rooms have a nice view over the road to playing fields where the owners walk their dog.
