THE blue waters and gleaming white buildings of Mykonos come to mind when you first see this incredible home, which was the owners’ intention.
It was designed by Fred Zuideveld and highlightstheir heritage and love of the Greek islands.
“It was inspired by St George’s Resort in Mykonos, with the use of natural stone and timber and the external render painted white,” the owners said.
“We wanted to share our love of our heritage with everyone who saw the home and transport them to a place we love.”
When looking to build they chose this 727sq m site due to its aspect and location, only 400 steps across parks to the water’s edge.
“The long 32m frontage of this north-facing block, together with the natural surrounding landscape and proximity to the coast, all made our dream for this type of design both imaginable and achievable,” the owners said.
Entering the three-level home is like stepping into another part of the world.
Double front doors lead to a private alfresco area with Portuguese stone and timber flooring and a retractable roof that allows you to entertain in style and comfort year round.\
The owner said it was his favourite place in the house and had Greek free-formed rendered seating and a built-in kitchen with electronic chargrill, gas and wood-fired pizza oven, barbecue and wok.
From here, bi-fold doors open to an open-plan living/dining/kitchen area.
The state-of-the-art kitchen has electronic drawers and doors, plenty of storage and high-end appliances.
A servery window and door link to the outdoor kitchen, making meal preparation and serving easy when entertaining.
The main living zone also opens to a rear courtyard with gleaming Mariella tiling, timber decking and a sparkling solar-heated pool and spa.
A 5m-high Donnybrook stone wall ensures privacy.
The master bedroom is at the front of the home and has an opulent ensuite with bath, dressing room and doors to a terrace.
There is a study and studio/living area at the back of the home, near a second courtyard.
There is also a guest bedroom with ensuite and access to the pool courtyard; it is ideal for visitors or even would suit multi-generational living and older relatives.
“Thought was given to the guest bedroom where extra-wide doors and ensuite design made for easy access for those who have difficulties with ambulation,” the owners said.
There is more living/entertaining space on the basement level, which has its own entrance and also includes a wine cellar with a kitchenette with integrated fridge.
The first floor houses two bedrooms, one with an ensuite, a second bathroom and a sitting room with a small kitchen.
All the rooms open to a Mediterranean-style balcony with Portuguese marble tiling and timber-framed pergola with polycarbonate and bamboo roofing.
Views are a key feature of the home, with most of the rooms having parkland vistas, including the alfresco area with 180-degree parkland views through the bi-fold shutters.
Internally there were also gorgeous outlooks.
The owner said some of her favourites were looking out to the rear courtyard from the guest bedroom, and through the door in the study to the internal water feature and swimming pool,
The home is truly special and has many additional luxury features, including switchable glass in the bathrooms to allow you look at the view and have privacy; underfloor heating in living and dining areas, corridors and bathrooms; a high level of security; ducted reverse-cycle airconditioning; and intelligent wiring.
