THE location was a key factor when the owner and her husband built this stunning contemporary two-storey home on a 305sq m block in 2016.
“We love West Leederville, and in particular Joseph Street, which is lined with beautiful flame trees,” she said.
“The location is perfect, as it is in walking distance of Subiaco and Lake Monger and an easy bike ride to the city.
“We feel spoilt that we get to live somewhere so central that feels safe and neighbourly.”
The owner wanted a home that was easy to live in, with wonderful natural light, lots of storage and high ceilings and commissioned architect John Lewis to bring their dream to reality.
“We frequently have family stay with us and wanted our guests to always feel welcome and like they had their own private space within the home,” she said.
“My entire family stayed with us for the birth of both of my sister’s children as they live in the country – it was wonderful to be able to share this with them.
“At one stage we were housing six adults and two children (including a newborn) and we still felt we all had our own space, with room to ourselves.”
The home’s ground floor includes an open-plan living/dining/kitchen area with golden blackbutt timber flooring, feature lighting and polished cement stucco wall.
The chic kitchen has a long island bench with breakfast bar, glass splashback in ‘appleseed’ and plenty of storage space.
The living area opens to a paved, covered alfresco area and a deep salt-water pool.
While the owner loves this private and secluded space, calling it almost resort-like, she said her husband’s favourite spot was the three-car garage.
“There’s enough room for him to have a great little workshop, as well as store all of our outdoor equipment, which is a rare thing in an inner-city home,” she said.
Also on the ground floor are a guest bedroom with built-in robe, bathroom and laundry.
An open-tread blackbutt staircase leads upstairs to the master bedroom with a large walk-in robe and ensuite.
A living area and study separate it from two more bedrooms with built-in robes and the main bathroom.
While the house is very elegant, the owner said it required little upkeep or maintenance.
“It’s ready to host friends and family at the drop of a hat,” she said.
“And while we don’t have kids, we have a dog, and the house suits this; the downstairs floors are really easy to clean and we have lots of great places to walk the dog.”
The owner said the home was a pleasure to live in, but they now are inspired to take on another project.
