THIS house has been home to just two families since it was built in the 1930s.
The owner bought it from the daughter of the original owners in the late 1990s.
“We used to live in Vincent Street and as our family grew, we needed more space so bought here in the next street and did an extension,” they said.
“The house is like the Tardis from Doctor Who; small typical Nedlands home from the street, which opens up into a huge sunny space inside.”
The two-storey house has a lovely character facade, with a light-filled modern interior.
The ground floor has formal lounge and dining rooms with period features, large kitchen/dining area with soaring ceilings and a casual living area.
The kitchen has a huge granite-topped bench, offering plenty of storage and workspace, and a large walk-in pantry.
“I will miss my kitchen when I leave,” the owner said.
“The pantry alone is the size of many kitchens and there is massive bench space.
“My girls all love to cook, so there has often been four or five people cooking at once without any problem.”
The dining and living zones open to the outdoor area with a deck, pond, gardens that were redone in 2014, gazebo and pool.
The home has seen many milestones for the family, hosting 16ths, 18ths, 21sts, 40ths, 50ths, and 60ths.
“There is great space for a big crowd outside and in; the dance floor goes in front of garage,” the owner said.
“We always seemed to have lots of kids here; the pool area has two separate zones too so young kids can play while older kids can laze and chat in the gazebo.”
The owner’s three daughters were very young when they moved in and they said the house was perfect for them as they grew up.
The first floor, with its three bedrooms, bathroom and living space, was ideal as a children’s zone.
The living area has acoustic ceilings, making the space suitable for noisy play or musical pursuits; one of the owner’s daughters played the drums and this was a very useful feature.
There are two more bedrooms downstairs.
One, at the back of the home, is near a bathroom, making it very suitable for guests.
“This area was Nana’s room when she used to come and visit us from Sydney regularly,” the owner said.
“The bathroom can be accessed from the pool area without wet kids dripping through the whole house.”
The master bedroom is at the front of the home and has a large walk-in robe, study and ensuite.
The home is on a 1012sq m block and the location is also attractive to families, with its proximity to the river, schools, parks, Kings Park, UWA and the Broadway precinct all adding to its appeal.
With the children all grown up, the owner said they no longer needed a full quarter acre garden and big pool.
A new family can now enjoy all the home has to offer.
